미국 내 저널을 통해 다양하게 활동해오고 있는 재즈 칼럼니스트, 포토그래퍼, 작가, 공연기획자, 방송인, DJ들이 함께 참여한 비영리 단체 재즈저널리스트연합(이하 JJA) 가 2024년 올해 각 부문별 수상자를 지난달 발표했다. 올해 평생공로상은 명 드러머이자 밴드리더, 작곡가로 오랜 동안 다양한 활동을 해온 거장 잭 디조넷에게 돌아갔으며, 올해의 뮤지션으로는 자신의 밴드 외에도 다양한 협연활동 및 뉴포트 페스티벌 기획자로 활발한 움직임을 보여준 베이시스트 크리스찬 맥브라이드가 선정되었다. 그리고 올해의 신인상은 아주 성공적인 데뷔앨범을 발표하며 평단의 눈도장을 확실하게 찍은 전통적인 성향의 피아니스트 아이재아 J 톰슨에게, 올해의 작곡가상은 건반주자로도 높은 평가를 받는 빌리 차일즈, 올해의 편곡자상은 작년 하반기 성공적인 신작을 만들어낸 달시 제임스 아규에게 돌아갔다. 그리고 올해의 재즈레이블은 블루노트에게 수여되었으며 남, 녀 보컬부문 수상은 커트 엘링과 세실 맥로린 살반트에게 돌아갔다. 한편 올해로 29번째를 맞이한 JJA 뮤직 어워즈는 총 400여명이 넘는 이 방면 종사자들이 함께 투표를 통해 선정한 것이며 다운비트 매거진의 크리틱스 폴과 함께 재즈 팬이라면 체크해볼만한 신뢰성 높은 어워즈다. 특히 지난 수년간 참여한 저널리스트 회원수가 대폭 증가해 더욱 공신력을 끌어올리고 있는 중.
